It was feeding on the near side of the = pond along with several Greater Yellowlegs, a single Solitary Sandpiper, a = single Western Sandpiper and several Least Sandpipers. Later on a Willet = (eastern race) flew in but stayed on the far side of the pond. There was a leucistic Red-winged Blackbird that kept us guessing for a = little while. It was almost yellow on the head and very pale overall. A gray fox trotted along the margin of the marsh spooking up a Sora which = nearly collided with us before veering off and disappearing into the = phragmites to the north. In talking with Marty today (8/26), the godwit was still there in the same = pond. Congratulations to Marty for a first St. Mary's County record! Tyler Bell bell@acnatsci.org California, MD <<< pauraque@OLG.COM 8/25 4:10p >>> Hi Everyone, Mid afternoon today I took a quick run to the "Point" after = getting off work and located a single Marbled Godwit at the largest of the = 3 ponds at Point Lookout State Park. The bird was very active feeding and = preening on the northside of the pond about 20yds from the busy busy = roadway. I quickly notified other local birders and Patty Craig was able = to also view the bird with me for about 1/2 hr. On an earlier visit today = by Patty the MAGO was not in sight at the ponds so more then likely it has = just arrived.
