Leslie Fisher will lead this trip, which usually involves a Fall warbler walk to the lighthouse and than back to the hawkwatch for any early migrants. So far this year we've had an incredible amount of warblers seen on the way to the hawk watch. Last week, Sean McCandless and Peter Mann birded in the rain and had 12 species. I was up on Sunday and had a good day also, with a great view of a Common Nighthawk in with a large group of Tree Swallows. Meeting Place: Elk Neck State Park, Turkey Point parking lot. Time: 8:00 am (half day). Suggested equipment: bug spray (for ticks). Conveniences: trees and a "pot-a-potty" at the Hawkwatch. Admission: None. Questions: call Leslie Fisher at 410-658-2427 or email her at gonbrdn@dol.net Turkey Point Directions: Traveling north on I95, take the North East exit (Exit 100) and turn South on Rt. 272. Take Rt. 272 south through the town of Northeast. Continue south past the Elk Neck State Park Headquarters, swimming area entrance, camping area entrance, and boating area entrance. Next you will pass through Chesapeake Isles and come to a dirt parking lot (It is about 15 miles from I95 to the Turkey Point parking lot). This is our meeting place for birdwalks. To get to the Hawk Watch you park and walk around the gate and follow the trail through one field and in the center of the next field is our sign and picnic tables. This is our Hawk Watch (3/4 mile walk - one way). If you continue on the trail, the lighthouse is a few minutes further.
