Maryanne,
     It is perfectly normal not to see blackbirds this time of year.  They
have flocked up and are out feeding in various fields and in the case of
grackles in woodlands, so they are more concentrated and you may or may not
find them.. As for Hughes Hollow if you are there around sunset you will
probably see redwings coming in to roost in the marsh.
