We looked unsuccessfully for Least Bittern but we did find a juvenile SORA at the edge of one of the shallow ponds not far from the main building. The bird flushed a short distance to the far edge of the same pool, in some short vegetation the Lilypons people say is "primrose creeper." Despite the fact that we knew almost exactly where it landed, it was so well hidden that we were within inches, still not seeing it, before it flushed again. Most of the impoundments in this part of Lilypons have extensive stands of cat-tail. The pond we saw the Sora in did not. Besides that bit of excitement, there was little else to be seen. Only one Lesser Yellowlegs could be found. A few Tree Swallows were still around. In the air were 2 Red-shouldered Hawks and an Osprey. Shorebirds were also hard to find at area turf farms. The Kane turf farm south of Adamstown (Frederick Co.) had only Killdeer, while the big Patton turf farm near White's Ferry in Montgomery County had many Killdeer and a small flock of Horned Lark.
