Sean McCandless literally beat the bushes from the tall grasses at forest edge, to bring out the birds from areas that were seemingly dead! He seems dedicated to getting chiggers. A SCREECH OWL began returning calls at one point. Warblers included: NASHVILLE, NORTHERN PARULA,MAGNOLIA,BLACK-THROATED BLUE, BLACK-THROATED GREEN, BLACKPOLL, BLACK-and-WHITE, AMERICAN REDSTART, OVENBIRD and COMMON YELLOWTHROAT. We did have several pockets of very fast moving warblers where many defied identification. At the Hawk Watch, Rick and Candi Lee worked hard to ID a smattering of very high flying SHARPIES, KESTREL and immature RED-TAILED HAWKS. A pair of adult resident BALD EAGLES put on a lovely display, and, interestingly enough, there was a flyover of COMMON NIGHTHAWK. Great looks were enjoyed of female SCARLET TANAGER, GREAT-CRESTED FLYCATCHER, WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH, GNATCATCHER, WHITE-EYED VIREO, YELLOW-THROATED VIREO and HUMMINGBIRDS bombing through. Other flycatchers included EASTERN PEEWEE, and numerous that were tallied " species." A good time was had by all. Oh, and yes, we fielded the usual " how much further to the lighthouse."
