Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Hi everyone -- Barry and I (and Joe Halpin) are back from eight days in Panama. staying at the Canopy Tower. Since Panama is wa-a-a-y off-topic (being even further away than V*******), I will only say we had a great time, saw some terrific birds, and are now back and ready to deal with local migration. However, I am a bit puzzled by the lack of reports of migrants on Osprey (with some notable exceptions). Does this reflect a lack of migrants, lack of observers in the field or just folks not reporting their sightings? I am asking this not to be critical, but rather to get a handle on what's happening with birds this autumn. I did note in Panama very few North American migrants about -- a handful of Black-and-White and Yellow Warblers, one Prothonotary, and some Orchard Orioles -- compared to the numbers and diversity seen at same time of year in Costa Rica a few years ago, but C.R, is quite a bit further north and this is probably the reason for the differences. Anyway, as soon as we recover and catch up with bills, hope to get out and see for ourselves!
