I, for one, haven't seen the first warbler on the Mall this fall. However, Rob Weiner and I were just out birding the Lincoln Monument area. An eerie stillness blanketed the usual hot spots, but we did find 8 Lesser Yellowlegs, 2 Least Sandpipers (both new for my Mall list) and a Spotted Sandpiper among the Canada Geese on the Reflecting Pool. The shorebirds allowed amazingly close looks (perhaps they are used to the tourists).
