I birded my yard and neighborhood and at 7:00 a.m. was rewarded with a HUGE group of warblers- one of those frustrating times when birds were everywhere! Diversity was low but numbers were better than I have had for quite some time- 2 NORTHERN PARULA 8 CHESTNUT SIDED 24 MAGNOLIA 4 BLACK THROATED BLUE 4 BLACKPOLL 18 REDSTART 1 WILSON'S I "lost" many to sheer numbers of birds darting about (those darn grape leaves!) A lovely young RED-HEADED WOODPECKER perched in the top of a snag, preened and called once before flying off. An OSPREY flew over at 8:10 and when I returned to the "meadow" where the warbler activity had been so good it was silent and still. One hour and they had all left! I guess the early birder gets the bird.
