House Finches with juvenal head plumage have tufts of down that makes them
look really silly! Have had several at my feeders.

The tufts occur because of the eye disease that most of these birds have. I
have observed birds with one eye completely closed over and the other
almost
covered. Not a very "interesting" bird, but still not the way I like to see
them living.
