Grateful Dead, U.S. Blues >>> Laurie Larson 09/16/02 10:46AM >>> NJBIRDS: Yesterday, 9/15, CMBO received a report of two possible adult Black-tailed Gulls at Graveling Point in southernmost Ocean County. Michael O'Brien talked to the observer and gathered the following details: The two birds looked the same: clean white head and underparts; "Laughing Gull" gray upperparts; "Laughing Gull" wing pattern with black tip and white trailing edge; white tail with clean black subterminal band and thin white tip; roughly Laughing Gull size. Bill, leg, and eye color were unfortunately not noted. The birds were observed standing in the salt marsh and were last seen flying across the bay toward Brigantine. Graveling Point is at the south end of Radio Rd. (Rt. 609) which meets Rt. 9 in Tuckerton. Birders are encouraged to check both Graveling Point and Brigantine Refuge, as well as other areas where gulls may congregate. Thanks to Michael and CMBO for the report. Please let CMBO know if the birds are seen again, and attempt to get photos or video documentation!
