It appears to be an adult. I first saw it this morning, feeding very actively in a mulberry tree, chasing after insects, and picking them from above and below the branches, between 7:30 and about 8:45 or so. It moved from this tree to a small cherry tree, then to another group of mulberries, where it had a brief encounter with a Magnolia Warbler. It eventually made its way back to the original tree, then to a portion of the hedgerow, where I lost track of it in a small dogwood bordering the stock nursery beyond the hedgerow. I cmae home briefly after that, and went back out and relocated it just befroe 10 A.M. This bird is very vocal, calling frequently (which is how I relocated it), and fairly responsive to spishing. It will likley stay the rest of the day, though its anybodys guess if it will stay the night, given the weather forecast. If anyone wants to try for the bird, call me at home today (301-774-1185) or on the cell at 301-221-6868. I may be out mid-day, so perhaps later in the afternoon would work. Or call for directions even if I can't be there. On another note, I went down to "the ridge" at Rock Creek yesterday, and though it was a slow day, we did manage to find a number of good birds, including Gray-cheeked Thrush and Swainsons Thrush (dog run and maintenance yard), a possible Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, a nice Cape May Warbler (Maintenance Yard), Black-throated Blue, Magnolia, Chestnut-sided, C. Yellowthroat, Redstart, Bl & White, Ovenbird (found by others). Also Baltimore Oriole, Scarlet Tanager, E. Wood-pewee, and a Great Blue Heron perched in a snag by the pool in the maintenance yard.
