We had hoped to make sparrows the focus of our efforts but not enough cold front activity has come our way to maximize the little brown birds as yet. We still had a pleasant outing good for 67 species, 70 species when we count the House Sparrows and pigeons in Chestertown at the Dollar General and the Cattle Egret seen by some of the crew on Kennedyville Road. Sparrows were very few and far between with just Song and Field Sparrow. We did a bit better on warblers with six species including a Western Palm found by Parke John, and very good looks at a Northern Parula and two Cape May Warblers at Turner's Creek Park. Raptors included a young Cooper's Hawk and four Bald Eagles including two youngsters that did a little bit of talon whirling. We had a handsome winter Forster's Tern at Turner's Creek Landing, and two Yellow-billed Cuckoos allowed most of us to get a look at them. We wrapped up the outing with a side trip to the Great Oak Landing Rd Pond which hosted seven waterfowl species including Ruddy Ducks, American Wigeon, pintail, shovelers and both teal, and five shorebird species including a Pectoral Sandpiper. Thank you to everybody for making this outing a pleasure.
