Date: Sun, 22 Sep 2002 22:22:44 -0400 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Joe Halloran Subject: Patapsco above Daniels Dam MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Canoing upstream from the dam this evening - 6+ king fishers, two osprey, two GBH, a small flock of mallards with one Canada goose and two Greylags, various unidentified bird calls (including a distant yodel reminiscent of loon - what could that be?), one (spotted?) sandpiper about 15 feet from me - and best of all two Pileated Woodpeckers eating dogwood (?) berries about 100 feet away from my canoe - flew in from upstream and hung around for 5 minutes or so flying between the dogwood and a dead tree right on the bank of the river. Also a couple deer, two muskrats, and a HUGE snapping turtle swimming right under my canoe.
