There was some diurnal migration observed, with several large flocks of Waxwings, Robins and Blue Jays overhead early. There were not many birds at first light, most dropped in at about 8:00 a.m. at Ridge and Yard. Highlight was an adult RED-HEADED WOODPECKER which flew in and sat briefly. For neotropical migrants, the tally was: Warblers: Black-and-White (4), Blackpoll (2), Black-throated Green (12), Black-throated Blue (3), Chestnut-sided (4), Canada (1, adult), Magnolia (15), Ovenbird (1), Parula (5), Redstart (8), Yellowthroat (15). Folks in the Maintenance Yard early had a Tennessee. Others: Red-eyed Vireo (15), Yellow-throated Vireo (1, a real cooperative beauty!), Veery (1), Swainson's Thrush (2), Wood Thrush (2), Rose-breasted Grosbeak (1), Scarlet Tanager (6), Yellow-billed Cuckoo (1), Great Crested Flycatcher (1), "Traill's" Flycatcher (1), Pewee (3), Phoebe (4), Brown Thrasher (4), also not as many Catbirds as yesterday.
