Each week the size of the flock is growing and it now appears in excess of 1000 birds--not large by Eastern Shore standards but pretty darned big for our back yard. In any event, this evening about 5:45 p.m. a subadult Yellow-headed Blackbird joined the flock for about five-ten minutes. Unfortunately it was moving all over the yard quite nervously and we never managed to get a picture of the bird. It was larger than all the other birds present, a very uniform dark brown with a lemon yellow throat and breast and lemon yellow feathers in a small patch in the ventral area of the bird. The whole flock moved on after about half an hour (as it does every evening) but anyone who wants to try for the bird please feel e-mail and I'll send directions. I probably won't be looking at my e-mail again until tomorrow evening, though, so if you want immediate gratification, call me at 410-213-9218. up until about 8:30 or so this evening.
