I like to visit the same location weekly to see the changes during the year, and today held something I've not experienced before. The first bird that I studied was a Northern Flicker. What a beautiful creature. Then I moved on to find a couple of Eastern Phoebes. Then saw another Flicker. Then a few birds flew over. Guess what? Flickers! Within the 1.5 hours that I was there, I must have seen 2 dozen N. Flickers. Why? Where did they all come from? It's not unusual to see a Flicker or two, but dozens? Any of you having similar experiences? Oh, by the way, I discovered a new bird today!!! It didn't look like anything in the guide that I had with me (Sibley's, no less...). So, the way I figure it, it must be a new species. I think I'll call it 'Dunnes Warbler'. In fact, I've seen this same bird in many different plumages, sizes, with/without eye rings, possibly a yellow mandible, ..... tom. ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
