It was still cloudy when we arrived and did not clear out until 8:30 or so. I assume that the frontal passage was too late to move any migrants overnight. We did have a couple of decent birds. Bayside Campground was very slow, with the best bird being your pick of RE Vireo or Baltimore Oriole. When I went back to fetch the car from the parking lot at the end of the road, I encountered 2 birds in the tree right in front of the car (the cedars next to the portable toilets). One was a Bay-Breasted Warbler and the other was a female Cape May Warbler. Shelly hurried back, but both birds left and she missed both :(. We then went to the Woods trail and turned up 1 female BTB (again a bird by itself), a couple Yellowthroats and a couple Pines. Several Little Blue Herons from the overlook. The Marsh trail had a dozen Royal Terns. West Ocean City Pond has water now, but nothing unusual. Sunday morning, we hoped for some better migrants after a night of north winds and headed to Oak Grove, hoping to bolster this year's homelist. We fared a little better, but the warblers were in groups of no more than 3 at a time. The tally was 5 Parulas in 3 locations, a Blackpoll, a Prairie, a male Wilson's Warbler (an addition to the homelist), a singing Pine, a brief look at a female BTB, a male BTG and 2 Redstarts. Other migrants included the first Swamp Sparrow and first Kinglets (1 GC and 2 RC), a House Wren, a Phoebe, a flock of a dozen or more Savannah Sp and an empid sp. A lot of Indigo Buntings, some Blue Grosbeak and 1-2 Vesper Sparrows are still hanging around. In all, 53 species, 4 additions to the home yearlist and perfect weather.
