As I was walking out around 8:15, it flew from the south side of the yard to the snags near the entrance. Prior to seeing the woodpecker, sparrows provided most of the morning's excitement as I saw my first Swamp and White-throated Sparrows of the fall. It was a good morning for warbler watchers to sleep in. I saw only 2 Common Yellowthroats and an Ovenbird. Other birds seen included an Eastern Phoebe and a Brown Thrasher.
