COMMON NIGHTHAWK - 2 migrating at Dusk, Oct. 3, Darnestown, Mont.Co.,MD A wonderful morning birding Sunday, October 6, at McKee Beshers/Hughes Hollow, Montgomery County, MD. Hairy, Downy, Red-bellied, Flicker, Pileated, Red-headed Woodpecker (including one in a dogfight with a Pileated) at Hughes Hollow, plus one immature Yellow-bellied Sapsucker one mile east on Hunting Quarter Road, for a Woodpecker Seven Species Sweep - its been a while since I had one of those. Also seen: 2 Great Egrets 3 Ruby-throated Kinglets, including 2 singing 1 Nashville Warbler (thanks to Dave Powell via second-hand report) Yellow-Rumped (many) 1 Cooper's Hawk 1 Red-tailed Hawk First White-throated Sparrows I had seen for the year seen along Hunting Quarter Road: two WILSON'S WARBLERS Around 1 pm a small wave came through my yard in Darnestown: Red- shouldered Hawk (1), Sharp-shinned Hawk (1), several dozen Black Vultures, a dozen Turkey Vultures, one bright Pine Warbler, and 15 or more Chipping Sparrows, 30 Cedar Waxwings ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
