The Washington Post reported today that "Maryland Gov. Parris N. Glendening
plans to sign an executive order today temporarily banning the outdoor
discharge of firearms for recreational purposes in Prince George's,
Montgomery, Howard and Anne Arundel counties for the duration of the search
for the sniper.... The order came at the request of law enforcement and
political leaders in the four counties, who wanted the ban so that police
would receive fewer reports of gunfire that turn out to be false
alarms.... The order would ... temporarily suspend hunting in the four
counties."

Does anyone know if the Patuxent Refuge North Tract and other areas that
are normally closed to birders during hunting season will be open during
the ban, since no one can hunt there right now? Hunting was scheduled to
start at the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area in Howard County tomorrow,
so I'm wondering if that will remain open for us as well until the shooter
is caught and the hunting ban is rescinded.
