After two unsuccessful attempts this month to walk one of my shorter loops I finally made it past the impoundments and walked east on Hunting Quarter Rd to the middle parking lot where I entered the central fields and walked along one of the food strips as I returned. Recent rains have filled the streams so I couldn't hike the dry stream beds as I had planned. Ended up with 54 species in the 4 hours I was here. Seemed more like fall than the previous trips this month with good numbers of Myrtle Warblers (66) and White-throated Sparrows (62). Species I recorded for the first time this season were Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (2), Brown Creeper (1), Winter Wren (4), Hermit Thrush (2), Swamp Sparrow (4), and Rusty Blackbird(17). Lingering species were Solitary Sandpiper (1), Chimney Swift (11), Blue-headed Vireo (1), Tree Swallow (35), Rough-winged Swallow(2), and Yellow Palm Warbler(3). Ruby-crowned Kinglets (25) were everywhere. Other species of note were a Northern Harrier and the usual Re-headed Woodpeckers(3).
