Lots of Myrtles, as expected, but other migrants are still moving. The best were a Red-eyed Vireo on Friday October 18 and a Yellow-billed Cuckoo the previous day. Today, Saturday October 19, I joined the Patuxent chapter of MOS on a half-day field trip to some of the lovely, less-visited places in southern PG county. To me, the highlight of the trip was the late warblers, Redstart and Northern Parula with a large mixed flock in the Milltown Landing area. That area also seemed to have a Towhee in every bush; and there are a lot of bushes down there. Aquasco Farm had dozens of Palm Warblers and more bluebirds than I remember seeing in one place including one flock of about 20 and another of more than 40. About noon, we realized that most of the group thought "half-day" meant "ends mid-day", not "12 hours". They left; Fred Fallon and I continued on to beat a few more bushes, then check for waterfowl on the way back. Trueman Point still has 3 Royal Terns (two were banded). And Merkle had a nice, white-morph Snow Goose mixed in with the Canada's.
