As much as I enjoy the Juncos in winter, it was not lost on me that I was seeing them this year while still hoping for some Indian summer. Today was a different story as the young Red-Shoulder born this summer to our resident female perched on the feeder and let the car slowly creep within 15 ft of him/her (I'm leaning towards her). I enjoyed long looks both with and without nocs. As has happened before, Mama (who knows me well) called from an unseen perch, but only twice and sort of quietly. The juvie paid her no attention this time but sat, seemingly unconcerned, glancing around and overhead from time to time. What a time for me not to have the camera in the car! As much as I hated to break up this scene, I had only returned home to walk the dogs before an after-work doctor's appointment. I was late. Oh, well, these are the intimate moments that make your whole body smile!
