The Lambs Knoll owl banding site netted its first saw-whet last Tuesday morning. Weather kept the nets closed for the rest of the week. The first big push was likely Monday night of this week. Five owls were netted in the first hour, including one that had been banded in Pennsylvania the previous night. Unfortunately my scale died and the operation had to be shut down as data is rather useless without weight. The back-up triple beam that had been donated a few years ago (or was it just last year?) by some kind members of this list was hit by a car over the winter and is no longer available. Another five owls were netted Tuesday night. The totals to date are 12 saw-whets and one gray morph screech owl. The banding site in Garrett County had netted its first owls at least a week prior to mine.
