Thanks for the information but today the shorebird total for Chesapeake Farms - one Lesser Yellowlegs. The Hudsonian Godwit must have moved along. Gwen and I did have two American Widgeons, a few Green-winged Teal, a couple Gadwall, lots of Pintail in various plumages, Shovelers, etc. A nice collection of waterfowl. White-crowned Sparrow singing when we arrived were nice to hear. Snow Geese total at Great Oak Pond - two birds. Shorebird total - three Lesser Yellowlegs, one Greater Yellowleg. We were there about 2PM for an hour. Maybe bad timing for the Ross' Geese. O for two for the day. A nice trip, some color in the leaves, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge was a little backed up due to construction, but not a bad day. The best bird for me was an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull at Eastern Neck. I picked up the gull flying into Eastern Neck. We were on the observation tower (the first stop in side the refuge). At first I thought it was a Laughing Gull except the white edging at the end of the secondaries and flight behavior caught my attention. When the bird landed next to two Ring-billed Gulls, the size clearly caught my attention. The light bill, and contrast between the mantle and primary tips confirmed the species. The head was not too mottled yet but the dark sooting around the eye was obvious. These guys can be variable. Regards to all.
