Except for Mallards, the ducks were disappointing: only a few pintails and a pair of shovelers. There was a flock of about 30 yellowlegs (about 3/4 greater) and a lot of Y-r Warblers. Only 4 Bald Eagles, although an organized "walk" that started about an hour before we arrived claimed to have seen 12. Saw a flock of 500-1000 Snow Geese flying around near Egypt Road, but didn't see any at Blackwater. On the way home we stopped at the Horsehead Wetland Sanctuary, which we had never visited before. At mid-afternoon it had little activity, but it seems that it might be better in the morning - certainly has a variety of habitats in a fairly small area. The only really interesting birds were some unusual (at least to us) Canada Geese, a Richardson's and at least a half dozen of the "dusky" race. Can anybody tell us whether those are really wild, or permanent residents at Horsehead? Best bird of the day was a young Cape May Warbler in the bushes at the north end of the Choptank River bridge.
