In the south fields, after walking through the first "hedge-tunnel" and coming out into the first shrubby field, I had at least 4 PURPLE FINCHES, all either 1st year males and/or females. They were feeding in a honeysuckle vine on its berries about 2/3 of the way up a small tree on the right (as you are walking away from the bridge), in an area of green honeysuckle leaves. Also had a Gray Catbird calling nearby here, and a number of E. Phoebes, as well as a beautiful yellow Palm Warbler feeding near the paved trail near the parking lot. Red-tailed, Red-shouldered and Sharp-shinned Hawks put in brief appearances, along with good numbers of sparrows (lots of Chippies, Field, and a few Swamps, White-throats and Songs). Bluebirds, Cedar Waxwings, etc. made for a pleasant diversion, then off to work...
