Sunday, we took a late afternoon walk along the dike path to the open field
and walked to the right about 100+ yards along the wood edge. Nothing
outstanding, but an enjoyable late afternoon walk. Woodpeckers seemed
particularly numerous, including:

Red-headed Woodpeckers - Throughout the wooded area - Appeared to be
storing acorns
Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers - 2 or 3
Downy - Several
Red-bellied - Several
Flicker - Several
Myrtle Warbler - Numerous
Rusty Blackbirds - Numerous
Brown Creeper - 1
White-breasted Nuthatch - Several
Harrier- 1 close at eye level
Goldfinch - Several
Bluebird - Several

At home in suburban DC, I enjoyed great close views of an adult Cooper's
Hawk sitting in a tree overlooking my yard. I was amazed how difficult it
was to see sitting quietly in the shadows under the canopy of a tree.

Happy birding,

Dan Eberly
Bethesda
