When I've talked to these kids, most tell me that they don't know other kids their own age that like birding. They also have a desire to learn more about birds and bird identification. So I'm starting a Youth Birding Club here at ANS. The club will be for kids ages 10 to 17, hopefully with a little bit of basic bird knowledge. Each month we will go to a different location in the MD/DC area to study the birds found in different habitats or even to focus in on one particular family. Our first meeting will be at 8 a.m. here at Woodend (Chevy Chase) on Saturday, November 16. These will be free programs, and while ANS is hosting it membership in ANS is not required. Kids will have to have their own binoculars. I'm kind of hoping that this can lead to an ANS/MOS World Series of Birding team in the future that can compete with the teams from VINS, CMBO etc. I'm posting this on MDOsprey in the hopes that if any subscribers know of kids that might be interested they can pass this info on. So if you know of any potential youth birders they can contact me here at ANS at 301-652-9188x37 or my email dfarner@audubonnaturalist.org. Oh yes, if any of you adults are interested in helping with this or future club outings, please let me know. Thanks, David Farner Audubon Naturalist Society ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
