Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Hi all -- There are some interesting birds in the region, which should alert us to the fact that these species might as easily show up in Maryland (or DC!) Virginia has four Selasphorus hummingbirds, three in the Harrisonburg area, and there is a rather early Northern Shrike in New Jersey. Our Pineapple Sage is in full cry, taller than I am, but so far -- no late hummers - yet. This is a great plant for attracting hummingbirds late in the season as it will bloom and bloom with tons of red tubular flowers long after other blossoms have been frozen out. It is marginally hardy in this area (should be mulched well and planted in a sheltered spot) -- we bought two plants from Benhke's for only $1.50 last spring and they grew amazingly over the summer.
