I am definitely interested in helping you on future Youth Bird Club outings, unfortunately I will be out of town on Nov. 16. You initially described some of your ideas of a "Youth Bird Club World Series of Birding" team to me in May this year, on the deck of the Cape May-Lewes ferry this spring returning from WSB 2002. I am glad to see you put the idea into action, it is greatly needed. The World Series of Birding Game Day is the best day of my year, and the only thing that could make it better is to see an MOS/ANS Youth Bird Club team competing. If you decide to field a Youth Bird Club team in World Series 2003, I will gladly help the team any way right up til game day. (For game day '03 you know I am already committed to competing as part the "MCC- MOS Holy Order of Loggerhead Shrikes" level 1 team.) I'll make a pledge, and if you want, help out planning routes, maps, scouting, driving, probable species lists and locations, making sandwhiches, anything. For 2004, I will commit right now to helping the YBC team compete, including game day midnight to midnight if you need it. [My current teammates Andy, Jim and Gordon will surely deserve a break from me by then anyway!!!] By the way, the Holy Order of Loggerhead Shrikes started 36 years ago as a youth bird club, because there was no youth bird club and three teenage members of MCC-MOS and ANS DESPERATELY NEEDED A CLUB FOR YOUNG SERIOUS BIRDERS ONLY!!! Keep up the good work, I look forward to more info on the YBC. It will be dynamite with your encouragement, after all this area has produced many wunderkind who have since gone on to great things in birding: Frank and John Craighead, Laurie Goodrich, Mike O'Brien, David Sibley, Byron Swift, Marshall Iliff, Paul DuMont, Matt Haffner, to name just a few.
