I always thought them to be more of a summer resident myself. -----Original Message----- From: Maryland Birds & Birding [mailto:MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM] On Behalf Of Kurt Schwarz Sent: Monday, November 11, 2002 2:38 PM To: MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM Subject: [MDOSPREY] Royal Terns, Kent and AA Counties My apologies if Royal Terns aren't notable at this time of year, but it seemed awful late me, though I see from the Yellow Book that it's not impossible. Yesterday, 10 Nov, I saw a flyby Royal at Eastern Neck NWR at the bridge, approx. 12:45. Earlier that morning, there were at least half a dozen Bonaparte's Gulls at the bridge, about 09:00. A Catbird was mewing by the Tubby's Cove facility. And I saw four different Bald Eagles, 1 first year bird, two 2nd year birds together, and an adult. Both flavors of Scaup, Buffleheads, and Ruddies were in abundance. Tundras were few and distant. On the beach at Sandy Point State Park this early afternoon there were three Royal Terns. Not much else to be seen in my brief visit, just the usual suspect gulls.
