Highlight was a single Brant - loitering in the cove beside Lowe's Wharf. It carried the extremely delicate necklace of the pale-bellied eastern population. Also from Lowe's Wharf, I watched a group of 300+ Northern Gannets feeding on some of the bounty of the bay between the Wharf parking lot and Poplar Island. Most of the gannets were first year birds. Some were diving as I watched, but most were staying on the water surface. A hundred or more gulls were with them, mostly Herring Gulls, but with a few Ring-billed and a few Great Black-backed. Farther to the north, at the Claiborne Pier, there were two Greater Scaup feeding quite close to the pier, so the views were quite fulfilling. These were also new Talbot County birds for me. Close to 100 Mute Swan were in the cove beside the Claiborne Pier, and over 200 more were visible from the end of Bay Shore Drive near Wittman. Back near St Michaels, I scanned the Miles River and found two Common Goldeneye near a small raft of Buffleheads.
