I also have Thayer's Birds of North America (BNA) for studying, comparing, and reviewing bird pix, sounds, etc. Recently Avisys has incorporated an interface to BNA which makes it possible to access the BNA pix and sounds from within Avisys, without starting BNA itself. There are some things you can do that way that you can't do within BNA. It makes a very powerful and user-friendly combination. If you have sufficient disk space, you can copy the material from the BNA CD to disk, making it accessible much more rapidly. You can get instructions for doing this from Thayer's Customer Support, or I can send them. The above refers to Avisys version 4.58 and BNA version 2.5.55 (database 2.5.1). Avisys has version 5 out now, but I haven't bought it because my computer is too old for it (but I should have a new computer in a couple of weeks!). Also, Thayer has a (fairly) new program out, Guide to Birds of NA. It's somewhat different, and I haven't had as much chance to play with it yet.
