We found Lapland Longspurs at two traditional sites and a = Snow Bunting at one of them. At New Windsor, on Winters Church Road = about 0.3 mile north of Hawks Hill Road (DeLorme 73C5), we saw one = longspur and one Snow Bunting in a flock of 100+ Horned Larks on the NE = side of the road. They were difficult to see in the grass about 100 = yards away and in the wind. The flock was eventually flushed by a = passing Sharp-shinned Hawk and scattered in all directions but remains = in that general area through the winter, sometimes on the SW side of the = road. At Otterdale on John Shirk we saw 2 or 3 longspurs in a smaller = Horned Lark flock that stays in the area just past the two right angle = turns west of Otterdale Mill Road (DeLorme 73B5). The grass was less = dense here but the birds would get down in furrows at times about 100 = yards out on the north side of the road. If you look for these birds = remember it is private property. Do not trespass. Do your looking from = the road. A telescope is essential. Good luck!
