This 34-acre property was just recently acquired by Patapsco Valley State Park, and a proposal has been submitted to make it a wild bird sanctuary, managed separately from the remainder of the park. It was quite birdy today, even without the 10,000 starlings apparently coming in to roost. Noteworthy birds seen were a pair of BLACK VULTUREs (not common in this neck of the woods), SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, six sparrow species, to include CHIPPING (8), FIELD (5), SONG (15), WHITE-THROATED (25), hundreds of JUNCO, and a beautful FOX SPARROW, which posed in the warm afternoon sunlight; and a nice, late GRAY CATBIRD, feeding in some thickets.
