Date: Thu, 28 Nov 2002 15:15:52 -0500 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Michael Bowen Subject: Water birds in DC Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed There were rather sparse numbers of waterfowl in DC this morning, Thanksgiving Day. 4 RING-NECKED DUCK 15 RUDDY DUCK in Georgetown Reservoir 2 pairs of BUFFLEHEAD in the Potomac near the Lincoln Memorial and another 5 females in the Anacostia 1 RED-BREASTED MERGANSER in the Tidal Basin and another 3 in the Anacostia 1 PIED-BILLED GREBE in the Washington Channel (where there were also 10+ BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON roosting in the trees) The gull flocks in Anacostia Park still had 11 LAUGHING GULLS Other birds of interest were a MERLIN and immature BALD EAGLE at Hains Point Happy Thanksgiving to all Maryland and DC birders!
