They have been appearing annually at Cape May in November, for the most part, and generally following the movement of warm air across Mexico and up the east coast. While it is difficult to be certain of the subspecies, the birders from Cape may generally feel that their Cave Swallows are the southwestern, not the Carribean, subspecies. This year there has been an unusually heavy infestation with at least 28 (and maybe more than 100) around Cape May and 100-150 in Connecticut. This is our best opportunity to document this bird for MD. Paul O'Brien Rockville, Mont. Since this bird has been seen (in numbers) migrating through MD, Where is it coming from? It was making occasional forays across our yard. Imagine, a Cave Swallow as a yardbird in southern Maryland!
