I spent over five hours at Point Lookout SP and vicinity this a.m., bumping into JB Churchill. No swallows of any kind, and birding was tough in the strong wind. Marty already posted on the collection of waterbirds, including great shows by the male Harlequin Duck. Besides that showoff, the best birds were a MERLIN, perched on the fence surrounding the Coast Guard Station, and yet another GRAY CATBIRD, along the entry road to the picnic area. No luck on Clay-colored Sparrow, either. Actually, even Songs and White-throats were tough to come by in that wind. JB and I headed homeward via Mattawoman WMA in Charles County. Thanks to George Jett's posting, with excellent directions, we had no trouble finding the place, and within five minutes of setting up our scopes, JB found the Eurasian Wigeon. It's bright red head, with yellow slick down the middle, stood out boldly among the many hundred ducks. What a great place for waterfowl. Thanks George! More later...
