Nothing found along the fire trail. While waiting for others to come, we scan the water for ducks and there are over 500 of them, more than i had on last two trips on Tuesdays. A lot of landbirds everywhere in all trails. Then we moved on to the fire trial where we met with Pete Webb, Steve Sanford, Elise Kreiss, and David Thornbald. They haven't seen the birds too. Later the group broke up and Paul, Keith and I moved on to the west side on our way to the meadows. As we passed the water on the right and out of the view toward the pines, a large yellow bird flushed into the vines with several sparrows, Keith and Paul miss it. I was sure it was a tanager with large yellow body with black wings. Paul stay on the trail while Keith and myself went off trail check on other vines into the woods and the tanager was flushed again in front of Keith to other vines. It is indeed a same bird from the trail. I only saw the rear. We stayed longer to see if he can come out again. It didn't show up and we gave up toward the meadow. When you get to the fire trail where the tanager first reported yesterday, keep going to the T-junction of the trail, go left and keep going until the water on your right is out of your view (the cove area). Immediatly look to your left before the trail curve to the right. You'll see the vines close to the ground, that where the bird was flushed into the vines and also try to walk behind the vines deeper in the woods where there are a lot of other vines. I hope the bird still in the area so everyone can get a chance to find it. It may be in the fire trail area or the vines at end of the cove. I will try to go on Tuesday to find it but there is no chance we may find it again. 4 Pied-billed Grebe 2 Great Blue Heron 28 Tundra Swan (flock of 3 and 25) 291 Canada Goose 27 Mallard 8 American Black Duck 2 Gadwall 84 American Wigeon 81 Redhead 346 Ring-necked Duck 9 Bufflehead 17 Hooded Merganser 2 Black Vulture 1 Turkey Vulture 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk 1 Cooper's Hawk 4 Red-shouldered hawk 2 Red-tailed Hawk 22 Ring-billed Gull 2 Herring Gull 1 Great Black-backed Gull (3rd winter flyby) 2 Mourning Dove 1 Belted Kingfisher 8 Red-bellied Woodpecker 17 Northern Flicker 4 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 2 Downy Woodpecker 1 Hairy Woodpecker 4 Pileated Woodpecker 9 Blue Jay 44 American Crow 1 Fish Crow 8 Carolina Chickadee 3 Tufted Titmouse 1 Brown Creeper? heard by Keith 2 White-breasted Nuthatch 1 Carolina Wren 4 Golden-crowned Kinglet 47 Eastern Bluebird 1 Hermit Thrush 107 American Robin 7 Northern Mockingbird 32 Cedar Waxwing 112 European Starling 6 Yellow-rumped Warbler 21 Northern Cardinal 3 Eastern Towhee 7 Song Sparrow - might be more 4 Field Sparrow 18 "Slate-colored" Junco 89 White-throated Sparrow 1 Fox Sparrow 1 WESTERN TANAGER? flushed twice, only the rear 3 House Finch 54 species A little late because I had to do the traffic control at the Christmas Tree Farm in the afternoon and left early due to my right hip bothers me.
