We have a copy, but for some reason we couldn't lay our hands on it in a search of our shelves. The curse of a recent move. Maryland has 12 bat species. Many are short distance migrants to communal roost sites. The Myotis bats largely hibernate in caves so they likely have left the Eastern Shore by late autumn. The big, cold tolerant bats are the widespread Big Brown (another likely candidate for the Kent I. bats), the Silver-haired, Red, Seminole, and Hoary bats. The Silver-hair, Hoary, and Red are long-distance migrants, they are sometimes even seen far out at sea. I was leaning toward Hoary for our bats because they prefer to roost in conifers and there were lots of lobololly pines and red cedars along the road where we saw the bats. It's not easy to identify bats in the field because of the hours they keep and also because in many species (especially the Myotis) the ID marks can only be seen if the animal is in the hand.
