It came up with talons laden with grass from the field and flew directly in a line that projected toward the local nest site. Another Atlas Data Point! It was a windy 59+ degrees here this morning. Two days ago, an adult Bald Eagle made short work of a deceased Canada Goose on the ice of Leeds Creek. Nighttime temperature had dropped to 21.9 degrees. The goose probably was wounded by nearby hunters, and appeared to have been unable to escape from the advancing ice during the night. It lay dead in the center of the stream when I first saw it, and its friends were 30 yards away near the shore. The Eagle had a quick meal, as the other geese watched, and left when it seemed to have had enough! Later in the day, a young eagle, perhaps fledged from the local nest last season, was seen flying with the remnants of the carcass. Probably at least two happy Eagles here today.
