Date: Thu, 26 Dec 2002 10:30:09 -0500 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Dan Eberly Subject: Ducks MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I visited various Duck viewing locations during the last several days: Point Lookout - I had excellent views of all three SCOTERS, GOLDENEYE, OLDSQUAW, GREATER SCAUP, RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, HORNED GREBE, COMMON LOON, BUFFLEHEAD, BROWN PELICAN AND GREAT CORMORANT. Most of these species were close to the road giving me great close views. I was surprised at the high number of Black Scoters, probably several hundred. Black Hill Regional Park - COMMON LOON, PIED-BILLED GREBE, TUNDRA SWAN, GREEN-WINGED TEAL;. BLACK DUCK, MALLARD, WIGEON, CANVASBACK, RING-NECKED DUCK, GOLDENEYE (3 OR 4), BUFFLEHEAD, HOODED MERGANSER, RUDDY DUCK AND RED-HEADED WOODPECKER. Piscataway Creek off Wharf Road: TUNDRA SWAN, CANADA GOOSE, MALLARD, PINTAIL, SHOVELER, CANVASBACK, RING-NECKED DUCK, LESSER SCAUP, BUFFLEHEAD, COMMON MERGANSER & RUDDY DUCK. North Beach: I had great close views of a large flock of CANVASBACKS AND GREATER SCAUP (PLUS 2 LESSER SCAUP) located next to the seawall. Also seen were GOLDENEYE, OLDSQUAW and a BALD EAGLE.
