Sycamore Landing was very lively, yet very cold at a brisk 27 degrees! There were lots of Bluebirds, T. Titmouse, and the usual winter gang. I enjoyed a close view of 2 Brown Creepers, alongside a WB Nuthatch. >From there, went by H. Hollow, where I had a long view at a Red Headed woodpecker. Also saw a bird that I need help with, especially from Paul Woodward, who seems to live at Hughes Hollow. It was a brown, sparrow-like bird with black eye-stripes, and pronounced yellow on the chest just under the top of the wings. The entire chest was not yellow, only the areas near where the wing folds against the chest. The bird did not stay still long and I soon lost it. Any ideas? Over at Black Hills, the usual water fowl was present (Buffleheads, Canvasbacks, Ruddys, Coots). In amongst a group of Canada Geese was a hybrid of some kind. It had a mostly white neck and head (some black mottling), black upper-mandible, pinkish lower-mandible, orange/pink legs, with the body marked just like the Canada. However, the area of the chest in the front of the wing was solidly white. My guess is a Snow+Canada cross. Is this usual? take care, tom. ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
