It's a good thing I did -- when I got to the cove (on the south side of the lake directly across from the boat dock) I saw a beautiful male Northern Pintail. Most of the lake is covered with ice but the cove is kept open by bubblers, so there were also 40 Mallards and 2 Ring-necked Ducks congregated there, along with the 2 resident Trumpling Swans. Northern Pintails aren't extraordinarily rare at Wilde Lake, but there are usually only a few sightings a year, so it was an unexpected treat.
