For the rest of the morning, we will visit areas along the Potomac River such as Hains Point, the Tidal Basin, LBJ Grove, Roaches Run, and the Washington Sailing Marina south of National Aiport. No reservations required. If you have questions, contact me via e-mail or at 301-961-5813. Yesterday morning, I previewed a few of these areas and saw the following: Georgetown Reservoir -- not much here, but the good news is that 2 of the 3 impoundments are again full of water. Maybe some ducks will find their way back. FDR Memorial -- 7 Lesser Scaup, 3 Golden-crowned Kinglets, and many Canada Geese. Potomac Park -- A Peregrine Falcon was perched nicely on top of the RR bridge. Washington Channel near Hains Point -- 2 Black-crowned Night-herons. A lot of gulls were sitting on the areas still iced over, but I didn't see anything other than Ring-billed, Herring, and Great Black-backs. Roaches Run (VA) -- 40+ Hooded Mergansers. Sailing Marina -- Red-breasted Merganser, Common Merganser, Lesser Scaup (and some distant scaup sp.), Bufflehead, Ring-necked, Ruddy, Mallard, Pied- billed Grebes, and lots o' coots.
