When I got off work this morning at 8AM I went straight to the North East Town Park to look for the Brown Pelican. It was not located after an hour of looking. I did however see a lone (tame?) Snow Goose mixed in with 12 Graylag (Barnyard) Geese. This goose was certainly tame and obviously not a Domestic Goose. Next I travled toward Hance's Point to scan the river form the Marinas. It was here that I ran into Gary Griffith. He told me that some hunters had been seeing the Pelican for the last week or so on the North East River in the area of Bay Boat Works (Hance's Point). I checkd the park again at noon and also at dusk. I did not see the Pelican at all today but I will try again tomorrow. While scanning the river form the North East Yacht Club docks I did find a single Double Crested Cormorant mixed in with a couple hundred Common Mergs. -Didnt expect to see that. The rest of the day I spent at the Perryville Town Park and the Conowingo Dam. The Park produced the expected waterfowl including Common and Hooded Mergs, Canvasback, Gadwall, etc... The Dam was slow for Gulls. It did hold a good number of Black Duck, Bald Eagle, and a few Black Vultures. The trail south of the dam was very "birdy" with C. Waxwing, E. Bluebird, 5 Woodpecker species, both Kinglets, Creeper, 4 Winter Wrens, Savannah Sparrow, Cooper's Hawk, and a large (female?) Peregrine. Back at work at Midnight and the Great Horned Owl continues to call from the woods behind the firehouse. ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
