There was also a Brown Pelican hanging around the jetty where it turns into Sinepuxent Bay. -Joe joseph.byrnes@comcast.net -----Original Message----- From: Joe Byrnes [mailto:joseph.byrnes@comcast.net] Sent: Monday, December 30, 2002 8:07 PM To: Maryland Birds & Birding Subject: Great Cormorant in Ocean City today I had a very cooperative immature Great Cormorant this morning in Ocean City. Since it seemed to favor a certain channel marker, I thought I would pass this on. I saw it on the green square '3' channel marker on the west side of Ocean City between 8th Street and 9th Streets. The channel marker may only be about 30 yards away from the seawall. I found it about 10:50 am and it was there until almost noon when a boat went too close to the marker and it flew. Since the bird may favor this perch, it might be worth checking it out if you are in the area. Ironically I saw only two Cormorants at Ocean City - a Double-crested and this one. I had a half dozen Purple Sandpipers along the inlet jetty, as well as some Ruddy Turnstones. No Harlequin Duck. Maybe a 100 or more Brant in the area. A Tricolored Heron and many Great Blue Herons could be seen from the dock at Hooper's Restaurant on the west side of the Sinepuxent Bay. And the weather was great.
