I was surprised by this and even mentioned it to the others on the trip. Actually, there were relatively few Tundra Swans seen. Because of the high winds the Mute Swans could have been in an area protected from the winds and out of sight. I fully support the MOS's stance on Mute Swans. If we would have seen them, we would have reported them. Is the MOS going to be active in removing them? Parke. It would be good to know just how many are present, and a group of experienced observers like your party would give a very accurate count, I believe. The MOS Conservation Committee has taken a pretty forceful position on the control of mute swans, and it remains to be seen what the Dept. of Natural Resources will eventually do to control this exotic species. Eastern Neck is a high concentration area for mutes, as least in the spring and summer. It would benefit us all to know how many mutes are being sighted, and where. W What do others think? Ignore them, or report them?
