We had the 32x wide-angle eyepiece (not the zoom) and it was best for our purposes. We used a Tiffen floating head tripod, which is quite light and easy to use. Under most conditions this scope performed excellently. On one occasion we did a a side-by-side with the fluorite glass model (TSN4) looking at distant birds (same ocular), and it was obvious that the fluorite glass provided more detail under the light conditions present. Three years ago we upgraded again, to a Kowa 824 fluorite model, and reconditioned and sold the TSN2 to a friend. We all took that scope (that is, the TSN2) to Malaysia last May and again, it worked fine under a variety of conditions. This range of Kowas, plus the smaller ones popular in Europe, were really nice scopes and very good buys (our original price for the TSN2 new was about $350, in the early 1990's). If you can find one in good condition used it might be worth a try.
